A black kurta that earns its place in a warm-weather wardrobe. Cut from textured cotton with an easy, straight line through the body, it moves from a long working day to a festival evening without asking anything of you. The mandarin collar sits clean at the throat, wooden buttons run down a simple front placket, and short sleeves keep the whole thing light on the arms.
What lifts it out of the ordinary is the detailing. Both sleeves carry a contrast cream band of geometric motifs, and the two front patch pockets are finished with a sun motif drawn in the same graphic language. Against the deep black cloth the cream panels read clearly from across a room, so the kurta looks considered with almost no effort on your part.
How to wear it
Let it carry a plain pair of trousers and leather sandals for the daytime, then swap in wide cotton pants and kolhapuris when the evening turns festive. It layers under an open jacket when the weather drops, and it works just as well on its own with denim. A black kurta also takes almost any colour beside it, so a rust, mustard or olive pant will sit happily underneath.
Fit and finish
The shape is relaxed and straight, with a gently curved hem that sits well whether you leave it out or tuck the front. Choose your usual size for the intended fit. Each piece is made in Jaipur in small runs, so the print placement on the sleeve bands and pockets varies slightly from one kurta to the next.
